The nursery has 4 separate, purpose designed rooms that are each equipped with the different stages of growth in mind. Children move through the rooms at their own pace and when they are ready. Each room benefits from the use of resources that encourage children to use their imagination to play rather than 'toys'. Children can explore and make different things. We operate a child initiated approach to activities. The practitioners use their skills and knowledge of the children to ensure that each aspect of play has a wealth of learning opportunities within it.
In September 2012 the government launched a revised Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. At Little Angels we work with this to meet the individual needs of each child. We take photos and collect your child’s work to produce a Learning Journey that shows with the support of observations from staff, your child’s time at nursery.
To support the development of each child we also complete larger more detailed observations that help plan activities and the environment so every child can reach their full potential. This information, along with the Learning Journey is always available for parents to look at.
The staff at Little Angels have been handpicked for their unique qualities that they bring to the team. As every child we care for is different so is every staff member. The team and I are committed to professional development and understand that to provide the best quality care we must, as the child’s learning facilitators, be continually learning and developing our skills. At present every member of the team is undertaking a course to improve their knowledge and understanding of child development. From NVQ level 2 in childcare to Degrees and Early Years Professional Status we are all on our individual journey.
For the older primary school aged children we offer Bright Sparks Club. A school day can be really tiring for some children learning is a tough business, so at the Bright Sparks club we offer a relaxing time for your children. Before school we offer a choice of breakfast. They can eat this in the “Bright sparks” room before putting on their High Visibility vests and walking to school. A good walk in the morning can help them be in the right frame of mind for the busy day ahead.
The room is designed to help the children wind down after school. Games, books and activities are available as is quiet space, a homework desk and an outside area. We collect from both primary schools in Uppingham. We understand the importance of child wellbeing so we provide a cooked meal after school. We also support children who may wish to take part in after school clubs. Extra pick-ups can be arranged from activities at school. Please speak to a member of staff for availability.
At Little Angels we also support the Leighfield reception class intake from September and can collect your child from the school at lunch, feed them and care for them until the nursery closes at 6pm, or care for them and take them to school for the afternoon.
During the holidays Bright Sparks offer a Holiday club from 8 am to 6pm. Day trips to local activities, themed days and arts and crafts sessions fill our busy weeks. Children can come just a one off activity sessions or the whole week depending upon your need. Places do fill up quickly so booking is advisable. We do ask that your children bring a change of clothes and warm/sun protection for all weathers. We provide all meals and picnics for outings. A minibus provides us with transport so we can go further a filed. Recent trips have been Horse riding, Rutland Belle boat, Stanwick Lakes, Bowling and Cricket.
